  • Good Interpretation of a Children's Classic

This is a pretty authentic interpretation/expansion of Crockett Johnson's original HAROLD stories. Our children -- 2 and 5 -- both enjoy it as they've also enjoyed the books. For those who are concerned that this TV series might commercialize HAROLD or that the books "should stay in the realm of the imagination" it might be a good idea to remember that the Harold stories were originally written for commercial purposes, they were made to be sold, and that all stories -- those in books and those on television -- can spark a child's imagination. In fact the first HAROLD film appeared in 1959 just 4 years after the original publication of the book. Crockett Johnson went on two write seven HAROLD stories and, while his work is brilliant, special, and classic I cannot believe that his motives, in writing so many sequels, were entirely altruistic.

I have to admit I love this book, my two year old loves it too. When I found out that there was a SERIES based on it....Complete lazy commercialism and the worst part is that there are people out there who will buy into it. Some things should stay in the realm of imagination and the story of Harold is one of those things. The most endearing aspect of the story is that he uses his imagination to craft his own adventure. To ruin that with hack tv writers out to make a buck is just plain lazy.
