Description

Sidney Lumet's drama portrays the real-life struggle of an honest cop against a corrupt system. Starring Al Pacino as NYPD officer Frank Serpico. After witnessing violent and corrupt behavior by his fellow officers, Serpico decides to expose what he has seen. Instead, he is scorned and harassed. Serpico's revelations trigger an independent investigation by the Knapp Commission, but they also make him a marked man, permanently changing his life. This is a breathtaking, suspenseful story of establishment and counter-culture.

Serpico is far from a perfect cop/drama movie it has that forumla that all cop movies have. Al Pacino's performence is strikingly amazing when he plays the titled character John Serpico in a way where his cop parthers don't like him because he is a werido and that character study for serpico is amazing and brilliantly told through the eyes of Pacino and Sidney Lumet.

Maybe this movie would have been O.K. back when it was made (1978). However, now, it is a relic of the past and very depressing. I turned it off after watching it for about 8 minutes. Don't waste your time and money.

This is a wonderful movie. Rare to have a movie based on a real story that is so well portrayed and acted. Al Pacino gives a 5 star performance. One wonders if the NY police force has improved as a result of the case brought by this cop.

One of Pacino's best performances, and one of Sidney Lumet's best films! A great story and a true story. Powerful, dynamic and SO well paced. So many great characters, so many great moments and so many great performances... Do yourself a favor and buy this movie! My only critique is that in a handful of moments, the music doesn't work quite right. Sometimes it's used when I think there shouldn't be any music at all... But that's small potatoes. I still give it five stars. A brilliant, classic movie!

This is Al Pacino at his best; an awkward, sexy crusader too idealistic to understand the way the real world works until he is knee-deep and can't find a way out. As a teenager I fell in love with him in the 70s; later in the 80s I was able to watch again and again with the invention of the VCR; this movie just displays his finest acting and sexiest, free-love and bearded self. The true story makes you really feel for the guy.

This movie should have changed what happens in police departments and government regarding corruption but it didn't. Greed is still a big part of 'the system' Look at the Palm Beach County commssioners. How many are in jail now? Look at Blagoyavich. Serpico was truly the last American Hero. Great foing Frank in your life and Al in your portrayal.
