  • Derivative but decent production values

After seeing so many good reviews I rented The Domestics. Tyler Hoechlin is always cool and a fun actor to watch in anything and Kate Bosworth does a great job overall but is somewhat hindered by her character's inconsistencies. Lance Reddick is always a pleasure to watch as well. Unfortunately the narrative here is ridiculously derivative of a dozen other post-apocalyptic stories ranging from the Book of Eli to Z for Zechariah (to just name a couple), most of which handled similar stories or story elements far better. Neither the story nor the characters are consistent and the characters behave in ways that simply don't make sense. On a positive note, the movie has good production values and good acting which makes it watchable despite it's eye-rolling narrative flaws.

Was exactly what I thought it would be. Dull and I had to stop watching 3 times. Acting and cinematography were good, but the script could have been written by A.I. Bad character development and no soul.
  • Clearly inspired by "Mad Max" I and "The Stand"

Although it does not come close. Still good fun and not a total waste of time.
  • Poor acting + unlikeable characters = wasted potential

This movie had such a good story! It was just executed so horribly with the terrible couple... it saddens me when a great story is wasted like this.

Kate Bosworth was Lois Lane in Superman Returns and Tyler Hoechlin has played Superman in the Supergirl TV series. Has nothing to do with this movie other than being a mildly entertaining observation.
  • If you came for Tyler Hoechlin it doesn't disappoint

I was waiting for this movie to come out for a while because I am a fan of Tyler Hoechlin's work. And on that scale I 1000% give this movie a 5/5 or 10/10 rating. His performance in this role is amazing and does not disappoint. I have a few narrative/ storytelling issues with the overall movie, namely some choices where things were unnecessarily cut out, which I feel could be fixed if the movie was a bit longer. (In addition to the narrative arc for Kate Bosworth's character--particularly the fact the character was written to be a limp noodle for 2/3 of the movie I find unnecessary). HOWEVER THAT SAID this movie is still an incredibly fun time and worth the money to watch.( I like at the end both Hoechlin and Bosworth have matching wounds) I wish it had a wider theatre release too. All in all good work Tyler! :)
