Description

The sounds, the look, and all-new digital effects that hold close to the spirit of the original are all here in the critically acclaimed "Remastered" editions of the classic Star Trek series of the 1960s. Available in their full-length, original format without the cuts of syndicated television, the vivid Remastered versions make Star Trek new again, without compromising what made the show a pioneer of modern, continuing-character science fiction. In the first chapter of the television series that started a cultural phenomenon, Kirk, Spock, and McCoy project the best of humanity into the 23rd century with compassion, boldness, and a curiosity to meet the unknown. For more than 40 years viewers hungry for optimism have found inspiration from Gene Roddenberry's visionary allegory, hooked on the thought-provoking morality tales, the humor, the romance, the philosophy, and the inspired gadgetry aboard the first U.S.S. Enterprise.

I absolutely love the remastered special effects. I have a vague memory of the original effects and am curious to see a side by side comparison but I know I prefer this version. Plus with the original seasons on sale for 19.99 each it's impossible not to buy them if you're any Star Trek fan at all.
  • Resolution difference from Season 1 to Season 2?

There is a resolution drop from Season 1. Season 1 HD resolution = 1076x1410. Season 2 HD resolution = 720x940. Why has Season 2 dropped in quality? Why is there even a difference?

While I enjoyed watching this episode, I was surprised the people in charge of remastering it did not fix a problem I’ve been aware of for years: The still images of the Saturn rocket (not the videos but the photographs) used have black spots on them that were either the result of dirty lenses on the cameras that took the pictures originally or the result of poor quality photo print processing from the original negatives back in the day. Here is Gary Seven looking at the Saturn rocket on his computer screen (I think Captain Kirk looks at it at various times as well), and the image is obviously “dirty”. Dear remastering team: Didn’t you see this problem when you did your work? Or were you so focused on looking for scenes where you could improve how alien worlds look or how spaceships looked that you missed this? Such a missed opportunity. I’m sorry this happened.

Why is season 1 and 3 in 1080p and season 2 only 720p? I double checked and I am correct...

Star Trek, when my dad first showed it to me, has been my ultimate favorite TV show! I can't stop thinking about it, day and night, I think and dream about it: about what it would be like to be a starship captain, or a first officer, or a yeoman. I think it would be really fun! I just wish I had the ability to travel back in time and meet all of the cast; including Gene Roddenberry! William Shatner, I look up to you, and admire you very much! Same goes to you, Leonard Nimoy!

Season two is my favorite, and I think its cool that the episode Amok Time has the additional bridge sequence to it. I'd like to think thats what they would have done if they had the space and sets. Well worth the 2.99 in my opinion. Odd thing though, I bought Amok Time and two copies downloaded at the same time, just wondering if anyone else had that too?
