Murrow was a leftist journalist who editorialized the news instead of reporting it. Obviously, the directorial task was a dream job for someone as hard-left leaning as Clooney. The climax of the film was Murrow’s part in the takedown of Senator Joseph McCarthy. The film never shows how Murrow and his staff had spent two months carefully editing film clips to portray McCarthy in the worst possible light. There were no clips showing McCarthy in a professional manner. Despite Murrow's claims, this "was not a report at all but instead a full-scale assault, employing exactly the same techniques of 'partial truth and innuendo' that critics accused McCarthy of using. But that has been the business of “journalism” in America since the days of Thomas Jefferson ... yellow. Rest easy, Joseph. The critical thinkers out there know you were right all along, as that nightmare you warned us about marches down our streets in the open today, leaving in its wake the burning ruins of a once great civilization. Brainwashed socialists, having been indoctrinated by a failed education system, infiltrated by leftists of the same kind of communist’s Joe had warned us about. McCarthy was right! “Land of the free, home of the brave?” Ha! ... if only Joe could see us now!! I doubt this review even passes Big Brother’s 1984 rules and regulations.

As relevant today as ever! An important work of art. Unfortunately, media today struggles with standing up to fear mongering racists, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, fascist politicians (anyone come to mind?).

I thought this movie showed how news today is controlled and we see what they want us to see. It started back then and today can’t even watch network news all BS.

Its not an amazing film, some of the actors needed to speak clearer, it didnt need to be in B&W to take you back to the ages, real life was not B&W back then either!

A small movie that takes one thin slice of the American Fifties, Eddward R. Murrow versus Joe McCarthy, and tells it in a highly simplified and abbreviated way. (Side-stories that go nowhere suggest maybe it was a larger movie originally and got pared down.) It looks great, in black and white of course, and Strathairn nails Murrow. The use of real footage for McCarthy and others was a smart move. In fact everything about it is fine, just kind of underwhelming and with an extremely predictable political message. What, is McCarthyism a bad thing? Thanks for reminding us, George.

Flawlessly acted, wonderfully shot, and masterfully directed. David Strathairn provides an Oscar-worthy leading performance.

Horrible movie like The American. If you want to see Edward R for real watch a great movie - Sink the Bismark. or if you like Clooney get Michael Clayton - really incredible movie. Good Night has not purpose, direction, and barely holds a thought and waunders aimlessly. Please don't waste your money, wish I could get my money back.

One of the finest movies I have seen in a long time. David Strathairn's performance was exemplary. The choice of black and white really added to the atmosphere and was executed by people that know to handle monochrome in its own right. It really put the viewer into time and place rather than just as a poor way of adding 'nostalgia' to the piece. Congratulations to Clooney for really nailing the piece - it's so easy to dismiss such an actor as dabbling in the more serious side of film making but Clooney shows he's the real thing.

Sorry but this is what I thought. The film was boring and I soon lost interest.
