Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton star in Dante’s Peak, an action-packed story about the incomparable power of nature and mankind’s unending will to survive. When unusual seismic activity is detected in the charming little Pacific Northwest town of Dante’s Peak, volcanologist Harry Dalton (Brosnan) is called in to investigate. Certain that a long-dormant volcano is set to erupt and the townspeople are in danger, he convinces Mayor Rachel Wando (Hamilton) to take action. Now the race is on to evacuate the town before it’s too late in this gripping adventure that’s filled with adrenaline-fueled action and spectacular special effects.

This movie was one movie I will never forget watching when I was young. Now to be honest it's not a great movie... won't win any awards, and yet something is so great about it!!! honestly if you go into watching looking to laugh and be filled with delight well you will. Nothing but good things to say from the start to the finish.

I know there are problems and it's corny and predictable but fun to watch and don't once again listen to rotten. Gosh! I don't have enough time to lust all the rotten tomatoes 90% plus reviews that sucked. Anyways, give it a chance and just don't over do the popcorn.

This movie is so good after all these years. I remember watching it on VHS when it first came out and have frequently seen this one every couple of months. I love that its available in digital format.

I love this movie! I've been watching it with my family for years, since VHS! It is absolutely amazing. It has a great plot, Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton were great together, and I would definitely recommend it! I would say that is is slightly better than Volcano, and it is definitely not a rip-off! In fact, I came out before Volcano, but they're both great movies; if you like them, I would also recommend Twister. All three are great choices, though! :)

If you like disaster films, you will probably enjoy this! Lots of in-jokes for the geology inclined(such as mentioning the 1980 Mammoth Mt. Incident) and probably the best case of science advising for a disaster film Yes, there is a lot of bad Hollywood "science." (Such as a Cascade volcano that belches out both Pyroclastic flows and mafic basalt.) but it's still fun and non

When I first saw Dante's Peak, I was just swept away by all the special, gory effects, and swooping soundtrack, and Pierce Brosnan's fantastic acting. Don't be fooled like I was. All the glitter is just a cover-up for the cliched subplots, cheesy script, and the undertones of the same old, budding romance . The most you will take away from this movie is a memory of mindless entertainment.

Good movie overall, however if you have an aversion to gore or are easily scared you might not like this movie. If you want a good science fiction, watch Dante's Peak. If you do you will have even more respect for the power of the Earth.

I love Linda Hamilton in this movie. She plays such a strong character: a single mother, who is also a business owner, and the town mayor. Her portrayal is made move believeable because of the relationship she has with the two children. As she is dressing for a speach, her daughter is trying to help her to remember names of people she will have to mention. Anyone who has kids of that age will relate it to the morning rush getting everyone ready for school and work. The rest of the cast is wonderful. The special effects are great and believeable; from the thick ash they drive through, to the lava that burns the cabin walls down. While a little campy at times, this is a great movie with danger, nature and a love story. They even save the dog.
