I can't speak about the accuracy of the history, but the movie itself was really well done in my opinion...very intelligent, moody, and supsenseful. This movie is definitely high on my list of favorites and worth owning.

Watching this movie really addresses what Caroll Quigley had been saying all along that the shadow government is real, and the world is manipulated and ruled by secret societies with small groups of men in round-table groups. The world as been and always will be controlled by the real power that is hidden from public view. This movie is long, but I can watch it over and over again since there are so many subtle scenes that depict the realities of how the world really works and not just in a fictional spy drama - which is disturbing as well. Very good acting with the big named stars. It should be required watching for everyone, so they can make their own determination as to whether they are being lied to or not with all the disinformation that is disseminated through the media. It’s all hidden in plain sight.

The Good Shepherd is a great intellectual film. The fun of this film is not watching and expecting to be entertained, it is paying attention and piecing clues together as the story moves along. The performances by Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, and Eddie Redmayne are fantastic! This movie is so underrated. This is honestly my favorite movie which is why it kills me that so many people don’t appreciate it. I highly recommend this movie if you want something engaging but I don’t recommend this movie, if you want to mindlessly stare at the screen and expect to be entertained.

Some say that this movie is like watching paint dry and they are right! However, if you like a good spy movie it does not get much better than this; a story with some historical background, brilliant acting and a surprising twist at the end, what more could you ask for?

Matt Damon's best. Deep and intelligent, based loosely on a true story.

Is the movie long? Yes. Is it a bit dry? Absolutely. However, the history of the CIA isn't all about bullets and explosions. Its mostly about putting the puzzle pieces together and developing actionable intel. I found that The Good Shepherd was a great spy movie. Mystery, and historical facts...It doesn't get too much better than that for a movie that chronicles the transformation from the OSS to the CIA.
