Description

In the sleepy little town of Fairwater, a monstrous evil has awakened...an evil so powerful, its reach extends beyond the grave. Director Peter Jackson and Executive Producer Robert Zemeckis unleash a riveting thriller with the most spectacular special effects this side of the hereafter. For Frank Bannister (Michael J. Fox), death is a great way to make a living: ridding haunted houses of their "unwelcome" guests. But he's in cahoots with the very ghosts he promises to evict! It's the perfect scam...until Frank finds himself at the center of a dark mystery. A diabolical spirit is on a murderous rampage, and the whole town believes Frank is behind it. Boasting music by Danny Elfman and co-starring Trini Alvarado, Jeffrey Combs and John Astin, this supernatural chiller is so fiendishly entertaining, it's scary!

A great movie that’s not too heavy and very well made.

This is an ideal vehicle for Michael J. Fox and he does a great job. There's a lot of fun to be had here and Robert Zemekis and Peter Jackson know how to make it happen. Good story, great action, great direction, great scrpit, and an off-beat feel that makes this film unique. I originally bought it on VHS, then DVD, and finally on iTunes. If they develop yet another format somewhere down the line, I'll probably buy that one as well.
  • Missing Scenes?

I just bought the Standard Def version of this movie but I'm sad to see scenes are missing like Peter Jackson's cameo and the scene where Dammers explains his kookiness (Mason Family Slave). Can anyone tell me if these scenes are still in the HD version? They might not add to the movie too much, but I know they exist and the version I saw originally has them and now the movie is incomplete to me... can anyone help? Thanks. Oh, and it's still a good movie.

I love this move, it is silly at times but in a good way. Escapism at its best. Give it a chance it will not disappoint.

Saw this movie when it was in the theater, in the 90s! Loved it! It was a very well made movie, with suspense, horror, action and comedy. Michael J. Fox was great! Just a freaking, rocking movie!

I'm not sure what I expected when renting this movie, but it certainly wasn't as amazing as what I got. The Frighteners is at once a dark comedy, a genuinely spooky thriller, and an intriguing mystery. While it sometimes pauses on each genre long enough to convey strong and effective moments, the really fun parts are where all three come together in a single scene. With great acting and surprisingly good special effects, this movie will totally blow you away.
  • One of Michael J Fox's Best

I generally can't stand Michael J. Fox, unless he is opposite Helen Slater...but this is really an excellent movie. Changed my opinion of him as an actor. One of his best acting roles and characters, as well as the job he does. I was shocked how much I enjoyed it, and now I am buying it to have. Sort of quirky and somewhat predictable, but great characters and acting. Not super scary, and more of a modern ghost story in the tradition Legend of Sleep Hollow. I like it, but then again, like a lot of off-beat stuff.

Peter Jackson does a fabulous job of weaving an interesting plot from quite a different angle here. Well acted by Michael J and company, this horror/comedy is well worth the 1:49.
  • Bettter than Casper, by a longshot.

First of all, this movie DOES NOT DESERVE AN R RATING!! It's more of a PG-13. If you have a twelve year old who is getting bored with spook-comedies like Casper or Wendy, This is the movie for you. SPOILER ALERT!!! There may be some parts of this you wouldn't want your five year old watching (A.K.A. Chase Scenes with an axe, or something of that nature,) But from what I can remember, there is very little that a twelve year old in today's society shouldn't see in this movie. But, and this is a big but, this movie is DEFINITELY not as family oriented as Casper. So if you're looking for something that the entire family can enjoy, then you might want to stick with Casper meets Wendy for your Halloween get-together. Still, You might want to rent it first, just to make sure you think it's okay.
